The Power of Self-Labeling ~ A Success Story

by on March 15, 2011

Today, scrumptious ones, I would like to introduce you to Tonya Heathco, an utterly fabulous goddess and a spectacular example of using the Power of Self-labeling to change even that which appears unchangeable.

We met thanks to the Great Edward Elliott, who shared her remarkable story on his Share Your Dream Friday blog.

Now, Tonya’s dream is stupendous enough, but what really took my breath away was how it exemplified the awesome, lusciousness of the Power of Self-Labeling, and how the Choosing and Owning of the label/title of Terrific Tonya had such a profound effect on her health, her business and her whole life.

But enough talk.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you …. The Terrific Tonya Heathco

The Power Of Self-Labeling

What is self-labeling?

A word, phrase, or thought you attach to yourself. Society has given us labels that we attach to ourselves without thought. The problem is many times those labels are negative and promote negative results leading one to believe that one is defined by a negative label.

During my late teens I developed a rare seizure disorder which lead society to label myself in a negative light. As my health became worse, my seizures grew to 150 a month. I searched for positive input as a sort of spiritual food.

Contacting many leaders in the field of positive energy, I began to heal from the inside out. Positive labels felt good to me so I knew once I began positive self labeling I would find marked improvement in my seizure management.

It was the end of 2010 when I met the Great Edward Elliott through FaceBook.

His positive energy was different from others. He was much more than a “happy guy”, he was the image of
what I felt I needed in my life. Suddenly it occurred to me, he was using positive self labeling.
From that moment on I became Terrific Tonya in Tennessee. It was as if I put on a new skin.

The emotion behind the label led me to believe I was Terrific Tonya. I began telling everyone and
sharing the new label through every method possible.

Not long afterward I noticed my seizures had disappeared.
I continue to take three medications several times a day to manage my seizures, but the seizures were not this remarkable under control until I started using a positive self label with the emotion that transformed my mind.

seizure disorder I was born with will only heal by Divine healing, I know this. The seizures, for now, have found Peace and are at rest.
I continue to raise awareness for seizure disorders through Squidoo lenses and FaceBook support
groups. Now I am able to add a positive light to my story by sharing the Hope that a person can
change their current situation by using positive self labeling.

There is great power in self labeling whether we use positive or negative labels. Whether
positive or negative self labels are used, they work.

Think about it for a moment. A person labels themselves as “fat” or “lazy”. What happens? Their self esteem fades and they are left eating cookies on the couch, slowly gaining weight with no motivation to get back into shape. This
happens because they are living their label.

On the other hand, take a look at healthy successful people. They label themselves as “energetic”, “healthy”, “successful” and “rich”. They live their labels and become the embodiment of those labels.

Which label are you using today?

If your label is not producing the desired results, you have the power to change your label.
That’s what happened to me.

Sending Love and Positive Energy to All My Readers-

Terrific Tonya in Tn

Now, is that not the most inspiring story ever?

A quick disclaimer here, neither Tonya nor I are saying that choosing and changing your self-label will suddenly cure disease or magically remove excess weight, or add a few zeros to the number in your bank account.

But if she can have this kind of result using the Power of Labels, what’s to stop you from at least trying it?

Bliss-ings,

the goddess known as Jacqui

PS. Terrific Tonya  and her amazing work can be reached and supported at her new Website and she would love you to connect with her on Facebook too.

Great job Goddess! As I read the article I got goose bumps and teary eyed. Teary eyed thinking of the blessings I’ve been given this last year. Seizure free in Nov. 2010, declared cancer free in Jan 2011, and sparked the flame of National Seizure Disorders Foundation in Feb 2010. Now onto even better adventures – Chocolates for Charity in April! Thank you for believing in me, holding me up, and walking with me during my new life journey.

Aloha Jacqui,

Wow, that was truly an inspiring story. Congratulations to Tonya on her willingness to change her “label” and change her “self-talk”. It is amazing how life changing it is when we decide to change our self talk and self image. Wayne Dyer says “Change Your Thoughts, Change Your Life”.

Thank you for sharing Tonya’s story with all of us!

Aloha,
Kellie 🙂

I looked at her networked blog followers and thought, 95 followers – that’s Marvelous! So there you have it Marvelous Melissa. That’s my label for you and you’re welcome to use it.

I strongly believe that a person should always think about positive things in their life. Labeling oneself in a negative manner will always get the person down and sometime they will become sick and depressed. But one that thinks about positive things will always label themselves in a positive way and will always look for ways to improve themselves and help others around them.

the power of self labeling does indeed work. But there are times that negative external labels on individuals from our society have gripped firmly on individuals already — sometimes it seems impossible for individuals to break away from them. Success stories like Terrific Tonya must be highlighted and told so that more individuals will be empowered and strengthened to break away from negative labels.

Thank you so much for your bringing us Terrific Tonya’s story Jacqui! I look forward to more positive success stories in the days to come 🙂

Jacqueline Gates March 22, 2011 at 3:37 pm

I so agree, Karen! As a species, we’re so much more quick to spread the bad news rather than the success stories.
We CAN shift our labels, choose new ones and live UP to and In to them.
And people like Tonya give us hope and courage.
I found her so very inspiring, didn’t you?

Dear Jacqui
The power of labels in our lives as Tanya has demonstrated goes so much deeper than simply the use of a funny quip, or tagline. Instead as you point out, it’s completely and instantly transformational to the individual carrying the label. We stick these tags on ourselves, or allow our families to brand us with negative labels in life, that can impact us so negatively, and I know about this from personal experience.
As a young mother of two little ones in 1989 I was working, going to school, and very ill suddenly. A year later I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. I was hospitalized and in and out of doctors offices for the next year. I did not want to accept that I had MS, and was eventually told that I most likely had Fibromyalgia instead (oh fun). But in the beginning, I remember using the words “I have MS..I have Fibromyalgia..” and started to take on that label..and ALL THE NEGATIVITY that was associated with that. I caught myself saying it, and thought “NOT!!” Then I began to turn it around whenever possible to think of myself as healthy and whole, pain free, and living the life I deserve to enjoy. I truly believe that I am healthier because of my mindset.
Recently when I met YOU GODDESS..I got to the next level!! I realized that I have allowed my health to be an excuse to hold me back in my life, A LIMITATION…and as such, after you and I did some really great talking about My MAGNIFICENCE…
I coined the label The Limitless Laura Morris.
Since I have been calling myself this, I have felt healthier, had remarkably better results in my business, and am attracting abundance from all directions to me. I AM in alignment with my truth!!
Thanks Jacqui for allowing my this place to share!!
With LOVE
The Limitless
Laura!

Labeling definitely has its impact on us, be it positive or negative. Unconsciously, we do label ourselves all the time. When negativity seems overpower us, we tend to put negative labels on ourselves such as incompetent, loser, lazy, grumpy, etc. Our bodies are known to have a natural tendency to do so. This is why consciously putting positive labels on ourselves is very important. So powerful that no negativity can break it. And it’s contagious too. We’ll soon find ourselves a lot happier and begin to see more and more people wanting our company.
