Take a Vacation from your Life

May I suggest that if you’re stuck, overwhelmed, bored, frustrated, feeling rather like the hamster on a treadmill,
that you take a vacation from your life?

It need not be long.
A few days.
A single day.
Two hours this afternoon.

Plan it. Schedule it.
Like a Very Important Meeting ~ which it is.

Go somewhere you’ve never been.
A park; a hotel room; the Barnes & Noble two towns over.

Take your laptop; a journal; your favorite pen.

Buy your favorite beverage and find a quiet spot.

Write at the top of page 1 ~ “What’s right in my life?”
List them for 10 minutes. Don’t stop writing.

Write at the top of page 2 ~ “What’s not quite ideal?”
List them for 10 minutes. Don’t stop writing.

Write at the top of page 3 ~ “Life is full of Infinite Possibilities”
Write down EVERYTHING that springs to mind.

Now, sit quietly and look at your life from Outside of that little, confining box you thought you had to live in.

You don’t.
You can be Anything you want to be.

Sometimes, you just need time and space to see it.

Simple exercise that packs a wallop! This worked like a charm for me and it helped me get “unstuck” on many levels.

You would be surprised at how well this works. I needed more than a day but that’s just me!

    Thanks for sharing!

Oooh what a brilliant idea. It can be so difficult to get outside the box. To look from the outside in, to see the wonder of the possibilities! Such an inspired journey!

Hi, Jacqueline! What you say in this blog is so important. We all are so busy but it’s crucial that we still find time for ourselves so we can continue to be ourselves. It’s so easy to get caught up in work but not only will taking these little “vacations” improve our self worth but they will make us more productive in business. I use a figs ‘n gauges chart to make sure that I find balance in life between work, family, exercise, & personal growth. I highly recommend it since it allows me to realize where my time is being spent. Thanks for sharing!

So good to meet you, Annie.
Now you have to explain the ‘figs ‘n gauges’ chart ~ sounds like something I could use !

Chichi ~ have to tell you first that I just adore your name!
And yes, a little time and space to devote to exploring your SELF is a vacation beyond compare.
Let me know what you discover …

    Aloha Jacqui,

This is an excellent blog post! Everyone should take your advise on this one! I love to take vacations and wake up late. Sit on our balcony and look out at our beautiful green Hawaii mountains! It’s so wonderful working at home!

Thank you so much for this!

    Aloha,
    Kellie 🙂

Aaah Kellie, I’m looking forward to the day my vacations at home include mountain vistas too! Got a spare guest room?
Meantime, my lush Georgia backyard will suffice.

I liked what you said about treating vacation like a very important meeting. Now not a lot of people see vacation or breaks this way. This ought to bring more importance and urgency to it. Wow. It’s really beautiful how you see things differently.
