Going Up? (or What to say in an Elevator)

Published: July 26, 2010 by Jacqueline Gates Filed Under: Becoming A Goddess 22 Comments

Hmmm … let’s see now …. Day 1 of the 31DBBB challenge … make an Elevator speech for your blog.

How hard can that be?

Well, let me tell you something, Dear Ones … it’s ridiculously, maddeningly, running-round-in-circles kind of frustrating to create a one minute ‘advertisement’ for a goddess out to inspire the world!

I started off with the usual ‘pitchy’ self-promotion …

you know, the kind of salesman spiel that, if you were caught in an elevator with me, would make you want to get off three floors early and take the stairs!

Isn’t that just Utterly Awful??!

So with some on the advise of the ever-wise Kimberly Castleberry, who never fails to point out (gently, at first and then with more prodding if necessary!) when I am functioning at less than my goddess best, I spent some more time mulling over these quandaries..

  • how to sell without pitching,
  • how to be passionate without being scary,
  • how to be a goddess without sounding like a witch!

And I came to the conclusion that I was focusing on the wrong thing! I was talking about the tools rather than the outcome.

If I can help a woman step out of the ‘ordinaries’ and into the luscious, scintillating, powerful version of her Best Self – that’s what I need to let her know. That it’s possible. That I did it. That I can show her how.

So here you are ~ my Elevator Speech.

You will let me know what you think in the comment box below, won’t you? And don’t forget to opt-in before we get to your floor!

Bliss and blessings till tomorrow, Dear Ones.

Ooh, Tracey, that’s a Great idea to put it on my About page. I hadn’t thought of that but it’s just perfect, especially as the post is bound to disappear into the archives soon with all the challenges I’m doing LOL
Thanks for the inspiration, my favorite Beach goddess!

We actually have a daily challenge coming up that is to modify an essential site page – I was going to do exactly that with mine! Rather than adding it to my do-today list I just figured I’d do it as part of the challenge! 🙂

AnnaLaura! It’s so wonderful to have you visit my blog! And thank you for the support and encouragement. You were so inspiring to me those many moons ago when we shared a conference room in Vegas ~ so thank you for that too!

I love your “how to do x without doing y” list! That’s so true. How to be passionate, convincing, enthralling and open/available while still getting across the entirety of what it is that we do in 60 seconds takes some work!

I love these before and after videos!

    Jacqui,
You have inspired me! The idea of juxtaposing the videos quickly captures your attention. The message on take 2 is passionate and powerful. It also teaches me that we must always be prepared.

    Aloha Jacqui,

I love your videos! And yes, the elevator speech is one of the most important things for any business owner. Our company taught me this within the first 48 hours because I couldn’t talk very well!

Thank you for making this so simple and concise and of course, your perfect example in your relaxing beautiful chair is just wonderful!

    Much love & aloha,
    Kellie 🙂

Great speech but perhaps if you would trip it down to essentials – it would be more memorable. Not to bust on you, as I think its superb, just a suggestion.

First impression counts and that ONE main idea you share in your speech, directly associated with your blog should be what I walk away with 🙂

Hmm Alex, you’ve touched on my dilemma here. I’ve not managed to narrow down my niche enough to be able to state ONE main idea. I speak of self empowerment, living your uniqueness and focusing on Abundance. I guide, encourage and prod women to dismiss the second-class citizenship that society prevails upon then and allow themselves to be goddesses. Or Sirens. Or Hot Moguls.
Perhaps You can help, Sir Alex.
Do you have a suggestion for me?

hey Jacqueline, I’d love to get stuck in the elevator with you, speech and all, even though I would have a hard time tearing my gaze away from your eyes 🙂

Seriously, I found your speech very motivating and it almost had me wishing I was a woman so that I could tap your brain for ideas. But then again, there’s no reason why a bloke couldn’t use you ideas to help himself to achieve his goals.

I’m sure if the ‘bloke’ was as enlightened as you, Sire, he would have no trouble using my tips to achieve whatever luscious dreams he might have.

And thank you for the compliment! *flutters her eyelashes at you*

What I’ve learned from my coaching school and tons of internet marketing training I’ve been through is that people will start listening if you talk about “What’s in it for them”, rather than the stuff you’re trying to sell, be it on the elevator speech or your sales page. Great tip, Goddess!
