The Price is Right ~ But will YOU pay it?

Published: September 27, 2010 by Jacqueline Gates Filed Under: Goddess Mindset 30 Comments

What Price will you pay for Success??
To be Thin?
To be financially free?

Do you know what the price is of your particular dream?

I’m not talking money here, at least not just money. But also time, effort, possible embarrassment, or being ostracized by family and friends.

Missing Monday Night Football for extra practice time.

Buying audio books instead of video games.

Every big dream has its price ~ and we dreamers need to decide whether we’re prepared to pay it or not.

There is always a price to pay. Whether it’s hours on the court like Michael Jordan, or hours of practice like YoYo Ma, you don’t get anything for nothing.

Legendary violinist Isaac Stern was once confronted by a middle-aged woman after a concert.
She gushed “Oh, I’d give my life to play like you!”
“Lady,” said Stern acidly, “that I did!”

My mentor Diane Hochman actually mopped floors at night, to be able to fund her dream of working from home.
And now she’s building a network to help others do the same.

At the end of the day, you have a choice. We all do.
As Johnnie B. Truant says, you can choose to be outstanding (or choose to continue to suck).

But while the price might seem steep right now, take heart, Dear Ones.
I do believe that it only appears that way at the beginning, and that when we’ve reached the top of the mountain, from that glorious Summit of Realized Dreams, the cost of the climb will be totally worth it.

So, fellow Dreamer, here’s my plan.
I will toil, and learn, and fall, and get up, and as Randy Gage says “Do today what others won’t do, so that tomorrow I can do what others can’t do.”

I’ve made my choice.
What’s yours?

I agree that you have to pay for success. I pay with my time. I am on my laptop all day working on my website instead of either playing some video games I haven’t played in months or going out with my friends as much as I used to. It is worth it though because it will pay off in the long run.

It will indeed pay off in the long run, Miguel.
And remember that the Home and Small Business Network is there to help if you need it.

Congratulations Jacqui! I am so proud of you. I am so happy you found your team and are ready to “jump off the cliff” and start flapping your wings. You are destined to Soar!!

As Jim Rohn says “the price of discipline weighs ounces while the price of regret weighs tons”! It’s so worth it and you will know by the person you BEcome.

    Much love & aloha,

I couldn’t agree more. Everything has its consequences, and you have to pay for everything that’s worth doing. Success is not an easy road to cross. It takes a lot of effort, time, consistency and determination. If you really want to be successful then you have to be strong enough to face the challenges that comes along your chosen road. At the end of the day, sure enough all of your hardships will surely be rewarded.

i totally believe there are sacrifices to be made in achieving our goals and dreams.

jim rohn says, “don’t let the good things get in the way of the great things…” and unfortunately most people can justify that their lives are pretty good without having to achieve their true goals, because they aren’t willing to give up the “good” for the GREAT.

congrats to you and your success… you’re doing so awesome jacqui!

(and i’m so behind the times with the HSBN… gotta play catchup and find out what’s happening!)

Aloha Jacqueline, our rituals reflects on us due to our sacrifices, rather we do what is needed or not. I agree, sacrifices absorbs time, people and family, at times feeling guilty. But in hope they have understanding, patience and love. Even if we may accept the challenges outside of our world, we continue to encounter others. Gosh we definitely have to build some hard skin around out thoughts, mind and spirit. But all that matters is a decision has been made with action, to proceed with the sacrificed dreams. Hey Jacqueline – valid question – i think if truth be told most people will pay the Price required if the BELIEF is there

Most people have hopes and fantasy dreams not real beliefs and therefore they don’t really believe in the dream hence any investment of time and money is resented

People ‘can’t’ give up cigarettes because its too hard – until the day they BELIEVE they may not live to see their kids grow up! Harsh but a perspective shift

    thanks for sharing

    Cheers kiaran

Kiaran, you are absolutely right. Belief is pivotal ~ whether you believe you can or you can’t.
And a shift in perspective or importance can change beliefs in an instant.

This was a really good post and video. Honestly I was a little weary on watching an 11 minute video, but I think it was a really good one, no lie. I’ve always said the EXACT same thing with people wanting to lose weight and such. You always hear people saying “I want to lose weight”, but then they never do anything about it. I mean really, it’s not that complicated. You eat less, eat better, and exercise. If they don’t do that, then they must now want to loose the weight bad enough, so they should NOT complain. Like you said, it is true with anything, such as making money and getting rich. This was a great video and EXTREMELY true. I’ll probably be checking out some of your other stuff. I once saw a quote that I think fits what you are trying to say in a strong way.

“Many have the will to win, but few have the will to prepare to win”.

In other words for example.. Many people want to lose weight, but few take the steps needed to actually loose the weight.

    Great video!

Jacqueline, And so the story goes.. The GET-RICH-QUICK doesn’t really exist does it?
It’s a darn shame that it is so marketed out here that those who come to this industry believe it and worst they buy it! And than they whine when it doesn’t happen. Who can blame them really?
And yet it finally gets to the point for some…where one realizes that their success in whatever area they want to be successful in requires work..” paying the price” for what one wants. And that price usually includes some pain and failure on the way.. But like Sir Winston Churchill Once said.. Success is the ability to go from one failure to another with no loss of enthusiasm. It IS a shame that people still get away with, and there are those that Believe in, the whole Get Rich Quick dream.

As they say in the theatre ~ there is no such thing as an overnight success.
There’s always hours and hours (and sometimes years) of work that most onlookers don’t see.

Thanks for all you do to keep it Real, Queen Jo.

Because of my work online, now, I already disregarded my social life. It’s a big sacrifice for me though, but I’m hoping that all important people in my life will still be there when I started getting positive results of my plans. Well, that’s the only reason I can ever think of for me to lie low a bit on my online activities.

Well, I do think one has to have some sort of social life – after all, one doesn’t wish to become a hermit and what’s the point of having oodles of success if you have no friends to share it with?
The important people in one’s life are usually those who support you in your efforts to improve and grow and succeed. Don’t disregard those dear ones as ignoring them, or taking them for granted, might mean that they wander off and you lose them.

The naysayers, time-wasters and generally bring-you-down-ers, by all means pass them by.

Good luck with your endeavours. May you be successful AND happy!

As someone who’s addicted to learning new stuff, I’ve faced that decision many, many times. If I come across something that really interests me, I just have to learn about it. Whether it’s painting, 3D modelling, silverwork and gemcutting for jewelry etc, etc.

I do consider just how long this will take and whether I’m really interested enough to hang in. Once I’ve started, I just have to finish it.

I’m with you, Graham, as far as being addicted to learning new stuff. But my problem has always been actually Using whatever it is I’ve learned.

Learning about something is great ~ Applying it is quite another, don’t you think?

Ah yes dear Jacqueline, there is always a price, and yet what are there so many people who think that they can have it all for nothing. These people who forever and a day fall for scams and get rich quick schemes. Forever being disappointed and yet never learning from their mistakes.

Can they not see the futility of their actions? No! And why not? Because they lack the direction; they lack instruction, but more so they lack your wisdom.

I shall do my bit. I will shout you greatness from the roof tops, or at the very least I shall tweet this post. 😉

You will always be an inspiration to me.

Very interesting point of view, and I couldn’t find a single thing to dispute in what you wrote here. I might argue that there are some who actually pay that price and still don’t get the results they’re shooting for and that number might be in the majority, but it would ignore those people who did push and work very hard and succeeded. I think overall that there has to be a balance between working hard (paying the price) and being realistic about what’s possible for each individual (I could practice 24/7 and, at my age, I’m still never going to dunk a basketball or start for the L.A. Lakers at guard).

Sire’s right; this is definitely Tweet worthy.

Sir Mitch, I laughed out loud at your Lakers reference ~ that’s how I feel about singing in the opera again too.

But you’re right, with hard work and the right mindset, MOST things are possible.
I just get irked by those who complain about their lack of success but won’t move their arses to Do anything, preferring to blame the government, their parents, God, … anything but themselves!

Excellent video! I hate it when I hear people saying they wish they were thin or rich but do nothing about it! Its these people who often make excuses to try and justify why they are not doing it.

Like you say – its all about the mindset – smoking is the best example. It takes a certain switch in the brain to make someone say ‘do you know what . . .Im going to stop smoking’

One of my favourite phrases is ‘ do what others wont to get what others cant.

Keep up the good work Jacqueline – Your an inspiration

Heaven knows how to put proper price on its goods. This has always been true. There are no shortcuts and handouts in life. Even those who were born well off have to find their path in life. Those who strive in looking for the shortcuts in life are often those who end up miserable and lost.
